For my project, I wanted to focus on the components of the natural environment on the east coast- the part of the world that will always be here to serve us as long as we are mindful and protect it. COVID-19 was likely spread from animal to humans, creating a barrier between us and the man-made world. However, the more connected we become to the natural world, the more we can use it to our advantage and for healing.
Edible mushrooms and fungi have tremendous benefits, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals- many of which can actually prevent disease. I photographed chicken of the wood, morels, blue and green turkey tail, trametes versicolor, phoenix oyster, dryad’s saddle, orange peel, capsicum, and mycena alkalina.
I truly hope that people are intrigued by the aesthetic of mushrooms, more familiar with their benefits, and fascinated by their properties and aesthetic qualities! If they were to be presented in class, in a calendar, or with high hopes, in a gallery, I would have a caption for each with their name and benefits. In utilizing the idea of "Fibonacci Sequencing" I have created symmetric forms that represent perfection in nature to attract the viewer. These forms are comprised in square format for organization.
